The 5km Anzob Tunnel, built by an Iranian consortium, is locally dubbed the "Tunnel of Death". Opened in 2006, it remains unfinished, still lacking drainage and ventilation. It features a disintegrating road surface and deep potholes filled with water along most of its length. Vehicles are constantly zig-zagging to avoid the worst hazards. Unfortunately, the older route over the Anzob Pass has been closed.
